FOOD 2030: Research & Innovation for Tomorrow's Nutrition & Food Systems' - Food Village 12-13 October, Brussels, Belgium

REFERTIL = BIO-PHOSPHATE recovery from food garde ANIMAL BONES; application oriented S&T reserach and industrial engineering for high added value utilization of the un-exploited (food grade) animal bone biomass potential for advanced organic hortuculral farming and adsorbent use.

The goal of the Food Village was to showcase successful research projects and initiatives dealing with innovative technologies for sustainable food systems on the near future. We are proud to announce that the Commission selected few projects for first international introduction, whereas REFERTIL has been priority selected for exhibition at SQUARE in Brussels. On October 13, several high rank European Commission representatives visited the REFERTIL exhibition show case for discussion of the project results. We would like to express our acknowledgement and thank you for the support we have received from the European Commission for the matured science applied research project FP7 REFERTIL (289785) and the previous FP5 (NNE5/363/2001), FP6 (Food-CT-2005-514082) and CIP ECOINNOVATION (ECO/08/238984) background projects under Edward Someus S&T coordination and key technology design between 2002-2016.

The REFERTIL BIO-PHOSPHATE and BIOCHAR recovery applied research, science and innovation project - www.refertil.info and www.3Ragrocarbon.com has been recently successfully completed with impressive, objective driven and proven demonstrated results to convert science into economical industrial practice for safe and market competitive BIO-PHOSPHATE nutrient recovery. The ambitious REFERTIL is applying un-exploited biomass potential (food grade animal bones) and providing high (>27%) bio-substitution EU28 potential for the imported mineral phosphate fertilizers with high Cadmium and Uranium toxic element content. In line with BIO-PHOSPHATE applications, similar high substitution and food safety improvement potential is expected in Australia, Japan and the USA markets as well.

The REFERTIL BIO-PHOSPHATE is industrially viable already now under the Circular Economy incentive under market competitive conditions, and that is a well-defined strategic project, with significant impact potential for the European agriculture, especially on the horticultural organic farming and adsorbent industries.

The REFERTIL project past five years provided strong and effective policy support for the European Commission Fertilizer Regulation revision biochar and Phosphorus recovery cases. Edward Someus/Terra Humana Ltd. has been selected as core member of the DG-GROW-JRC STRUBIAS (struvite-biochar-ash products) law harmonization  work group and EIP-AGRI Nutrient Recycling Focus Group as well.

In 2017, we are searching for potential and qualified partners and stakeholders from the EU, Australia, Japan, USA/Canada and South Korea for industrial/commercial exploitation of the REFERTIL BIO-PHOSPHATE nutrient recovery proven demonstrated results, such as joint partneship implementation of the industrial replication model with 20,800 t/y throughput capacity food grade animal bone grist and the follow up industrial expansion projects in the temperate climatic zone country markets globally world wide.
